Wow. Alex is almost two. I don’t write very much these days, mostly because I am distracted by other things, but it’s amazing to me that a sperm and an egg that got together almost three years ago can now talk, walk, move things, point, cry, yell, scream, squeal, smile, pout, and just generally bring great frustration and great joy into my life. When people say they grow up so fast, you better believe they weren’t kidding.

Again, we are superstitious people now that we have a baby on our hands, and we don’t want to jinx things. That’s why I write with trepidation that Alex is sleeping through the night. From 7:30 PM to 6:00 AM the next day. Wow.

I don’t want to jinx it, but the little man slept through the night last night and the night before. Yes, that’s right, he slept through the night. And I’m not talking about the medical definition of sleeping through the night (12 AM to 5 AM). He slept MORE than that.

Co-sleeping is still working…but we’ve proven that if he’s not in our bed, he doesn’t sleep well. Lately, he’s been waking up every hour when he’s in his crib from 7 PM to 11 PM; he never used to do that before. We figure his teething may be bothering him again.

Overall, the little guy is doing well. This morning he woke up at 5:30 AM and wouldn’t go back to sleep, so Angelica put him in his crib in the nursery where it’s still dark. Suffice it to say, he wanted to stay up, and he wanted someone to hold him while he did.

Things are looking good. Alex is still confused whem Mommy gets up and when Daddy doesn’t, but overall he’s sleeping for longer stretches at night.

Yes! The little man got some sleep. He woke up at 4:45 AM last night, without having woken up since 11:15 PM. Co-sleeping is working very well. Now, we just have to get him to sleep until 7:15 AM.

This has become a real saga. Disclaimer: we love the little guy to death, but we really wish he would just SLEEP. Of course, he’s only five months old, and babies sleep differently than adults do, but lately its been BAD.
